Can I pick a custom address name or domain?

Yes to both. The “Custom” button under the address lets you choose your own name — 3 to 20 characters, letters, numbers, dots, underscores and hyphens — as long as it isn't already taken on that domain. The domain button cycles through the receiving domains this site currently offers.

When a custom name helps

• Your own bookkeeping: names like shop-trial-01 or qa-signup-12 make it obvious which task an inbox belongs to — useful for developer testing.

When to stick with random

The inbox has no password, so obscurity is the only protection. A random ten-character name is impractical to guess; john91 on a known temp-mail domain is not. If the mail isn't sensitive it doesn't matter much — but when in doubt, random wins.
