What “generating” an address actually does

Every address is a name plus a domain. The generator picks ten random characters and attaches them to a receiving domain this site operates, so anything sent to it actually gets delivered — to the inbox shown on this page, in your browser session. That's the difference between a generator with an inbox and one that only prints strings.

Random or custom — your call

• Random names (the default) are the safer choice: nothing about them links back to you, and collisions with other visitors are practically impossible.
• Custom names — tap “Custom” under the address to choose 3–20 characters (letters, numbers and . _ -), as long as the name isn't taken on that domain. Handy when a form rejects random-looking addresses.
• Multiple domains — tap the domain button to cycle through the receiving domains currently offered. Some sites block one domain but not another.

Two honest limits

First: the inbox has no password — anyone who learns the exact address could read its mail while it lives, so keep sensitive material out of it. Second: some sites check domains against disposable-email blocklists and refuse them; you can try another domain, but there's no guaranteed bypass.
